Citizens Independence Initiatives (CII) was inspired by Rev. Mahn C. & Esther W. Krua, parents of CII founder, Pastor Torli H. Krua. The Kruas lived an exemplary life demonstrating the biblical truth; "All things are possible to those who believe." and "With God, all things are possible." Without formal education, the Kruas and Makors joined with their friends to build and run an elite private school in a remote village of Ziah, Nimba County, Liberia, West Africa. American missionaries from Baptist Mid Missions who educated their own children in a segregated white only school declined to provide education for Liberians because they claimed "Jesus was coming quickly and education was a waste of time". Additionally, they claimed they only had budget for "saving African souls", not to educate Africans. Without formal education , support from the government, western charities or western companies the people came together and built a boarding school for boys and girls. By doing it themselves, they established a legacy for their students and graduates to become change agents in their villages and beyond-from the remote village of Ziah, they are helping to change our world. If they can do it, anyone can. Join us now!
